Azeez Author-Workplace-Name: Dept. of Business Administration, University of Lagos - Lagos State, Nigeria Title: Boko Haram Insurgency in Nigeria: Defining, Addressing and Understanding its Impact on Telecommunication Industry Abstract: Recent terrorism act especially in the middle–east countries like the Palestine and the Afghanistan have infected African countries like Nigeria and brought domestic terrorism into the front burner. This study investigates boko haram insurgency activities in Nigeria: defining, addressing and understanding its impacts on the telecommunication industry. This study provides a descriptive exploration of the evolution of boko haram insurgency as one of the domestic terror group in Nigeria. The activities of this terrorist group have paralyzed the social- economic activities and done a lot of damages on the telecom hardware of the telecom service providers operating within the north east Nigeria. The study reveals that there will be no significant difference on the series of attacks carried out by BH insurgents and vandalization of telecom basic infrastructure of operators in the north east of Nigeria. However, domestic terrorism and the economic growth of the affected region in Nigeria tends towards the same direction with the first hypothesi.s This paper concludes that the affected region is not likely to resist or have contrary opinions to heavy presence of Nigeria army and other security operatives under the Nigeria armed forces to secure their life and property.
